The Realm Screen

There are 5 areas on The Realm screen: Main, Tabs, Dialogue Box, Controls, and Text Input.

Main - This is where most of the action in the game takes place. Here you see your character, the surrounding environment, and any other beings that may be around you.

Dialogue Box - There are four of these areas you will encounter under different tabs; Room, Gossip, Group and Tells. Here you will see what other players are saying as well as your own speech once you have entered it.

Controls - This area provides access to the game functions.

Text Input - Here is where you type what you want to say to people, including emotes. You may also type some game commands here for the server to take action upon. Commands are always preceded by a forward slash: /.

When a space is placed before the forward slash, the emote appears as plain text. Otherwise, it will always show in the Room Tab.

Tabs - These will take you to other sections of your screen, i.e. Room, Gossip, Group, Friends, Mail and Tell.

The Controls

Health - This indicator tells how many health points you have remaining.

Mana - This indicator tells how many mana crystals you have remaining.

Inventory - Displays items in your inventory. Click on any item for related choices such as look in, look at, eat, drink, take off, wear and make item.

Quests - Displays a list of Quests you are currently pursuing. You don't do many quests, so don't worry if your list is empty.

Chat - Displays Friends List, Player's Online, Channels, Enemies.

Options - Displays general game options such as quit, chat text selector, logoff, and general options.

Spells - Displays spells you have learned. You have the option of adding or removing frequently used spells to a Favorites List.

Group - Displays group options such as group, open/close group, follow/no follow, leave, kick (leader only) and a list of members in your group.

Mail - Provides access to the Realm mail system.

Help - Displays help and informational options such as the Game Moderator list, online guide, customer service, technical support, What's New, emotes and credits.

The Chat Areas
There are four basic areas of communication. All messages are sent and received under the appropriate Tab. The tab will light up and blink indicating new activity in that screen. It will blink until acknowledged.

Room Tab - Only players in the same room (screen) as you see the message.
Commands: F1
(/g message from another tab places your text in the room dialogue area.)

Gossip Tab - Only players on your gossip channel see the message. Messages from any player in the Realm who is on the same channel as you appear in the Chat area.

New players automatically start The Realm on the Game Help channel (channel 4). Once you reach level 3 you enter the Realm with the default gossip channel (channel 1) active. The next time you log into Realm, you will be on the same channel you logged from.

You are always free to change which gossip channel you are on at any time by either typing /join 1-999 or using the Channels option within the Chat tab. You may also turn gossip off completely by typing /nogossip.
Commands: F2
(/g message from another tab places your text in the gossip dialogue area.

Group Tab - Only players in your group, when you are in a group, see the message. They do not need to be in the same room to see the message. These are preceded by the word “Group”and appear in light blue text.
Command: F3
(/gt message from another tab places your text in the group dialogue area.)

Tells Tab - Only the player selected will see the message. Realmers refer to this as a /t.
Command: F6
(/t username message from another tab places your text in the tell dialogue area.)

Dealing with Shopkeepers
There are four main interactions you may perform with shopkeepers. Repair, talk, shop and sell. Using your cursor, click on the shopkeeper to open a dialog box.

Look at - Enables you to look at the details of the Shopkeeper.

Repair - When selected, all of your armor and/or weapons will be repaired.

Talk - When selected, some of the shopkeepers give you information, some of them offer quests, and some of them just like to talk. They will spread rumors, too, and since rumors are often a mix of fact, falsehood, misinformation and personal opinion, bear that in mind. When the talk screen appears, click the red type for answers to the banner questions.

Walk To - Enables you to walk to the Shopkeeper.

Shop - Scroll to an area of interest, highlight it and continue until you make your choice. Look at the item to bring up more detailed information. You can purchase one of these items, or many. Select 'Purchase' to complete the transaction. Your gold coins are automatically reduced and the item(s) is automatically placed in your Inventory.

Sell - Click and drag an item from your inventory onto the shopkeeper to get a quote. Later when you have many items to sell, put them all in a container and offer the entire lot instead of dragging one by one (you will get the container back after the sale). Or you can talk to the shopkeeper, and click Sell. This will bring up a list of items you can sell which are not in containers. This allows you to sell many items at once.

Using Dye - Purchase one bottle of dye for each item you whose color you wish to change. Most items in your inventory can be dyed, including weapons, amulets, rings, and armor. One of the items which cannot be dyed are baldrics.

To use the dye, in your inventory window drag the dye bottle onto the item to be dyed. For hair dye, just click on the bottle and select 'dye'.

Now that you've got a hold on the basic controls, lets see about Gearing Up.
