Trading Guides!

Trading in The Realm is a potentially dangerous, but potentially rewarding venture. But how do you go about it? Well, lets say that you have an item that you're ready to sell, but you're not sure how much it is. And lets say for this example the item is a Uruz Dagger. You do your own enchanting, and you've managed to 5x it.

Of course, the first thing you'll want to do is to switch to channel 5. Channel 5 is the trading channel, and it's where this business happens. First, you need to know how much your item is worth. This question is generally known as a pc, or price check.

The appropriate thing to do would be to put into chat: "Can I get a pc on a 5x Uruz?"

It's important to mention whether or not the item is enchanted, and how many chants it has. You may, or may not, get a response promptly. Don't repeat your message immediately. A lot of folks do other things while they realm, so give them time to respond. If you don't get a reply back after five or ten minutes, feel free to ask again. Occasionally at this point, you'll get someone sending you a message in tells, or /t's, giving you an offer for your item. Usually these are attempts to purchase the item from you at a lower cost so that they can then resell it. Not always, but often enough to be wary.

Eventually, you'll get a response as to how much the item costs. Lets say that it was priced at 500k. Now you need to construct a selling message. It should go something like this: "Selling 5x uruz 500k, pst." Alternatively, you could go with "WTS 5x uruz, pst with offer." The first is better to sell the item quickly, while the second gives you room to maneuver for a better price.

Once you and another person agree on an amount, you need to go and physically trade the items. This can be dangerous, as you run a risk of losing your item. There are three options for the transfer of items. Either you can hand your uruz to the other person, and trust him/her to give you the money, or the other person can hand you the money, and trust you to give them the item. Or, as usually happens, one party or the other requests the services of an MP.

An MP is a middle person, who is generally considered honest, enough so to take both items, and hand the appropriate items and amounts to the appropriate party. When requesting an MM, it's important to do two things. First, you need to request refs from the trading channel. A ref happens when another character says that the mp is honest. Watch for these, as someone without them who is offering to mp may be trying to scam you. Secondly, you need to ask the other trader if they're ok with the mp. If they aren't, you can keep looking for another one, or start searching for a new buyer.

The more you watch trade chat, the more you'll get a feel for who you can trust, and who is going to scam you. Until then, be cautious.
